The Department of Geomatics and Land Management, Makerere University will hold the 6th Advances in Geomatics Research Conference (AGRC2021) virtual event streaming from Kampala, UGANDA from the 7th – 8th October 2021.
The team at Digital Earth Africa were delighted to host a pre-conference workshop, titled “Unlocking the Promise of Tomorrow” earlier this week. We were excited to be joined by 100 participants from Uganda and beyond representing government, academia and NGOs.
Participants were given an overview of the DE Africa platform including demonstrations of the Map and Sandbox. Many of the participants were previously aware of the platform but not explored its capabilities, and there was a great discussion around Digital Earth Africa’s potential applications in agriculture, water, urbanisation and forest management. It was excellent to see the audience engage in the possibilities of the DE Africa platform in their research and roles.
The workshop succeeded in showcasing the platform and giving the participants practical ideas of how it can be utilised for their own use cases. It was great to see so many faces from Makerere University, and we hope to see participants in future DE Africa community events as well as accessing DE Africa services from the Sandbox and in GIS software using DE Africa Web Services .
To catch up on the full workshop, you can watch the recording on the Makerere University YouTube channel here.
Please join us on Friday 8th October 2021 at 9am East Africa Time (EAT) as one of the DE Africa champions Ms. Stella Mutai shares her experiences using the platform to monitor agriculture and food security - register for the session here.
