Prof Yashon Ombado Ouma is a Professor of Geomatics at the University of Botswana, specializing in Earth Observation Analytics and GeoAI. His research at the University of Botswana focuses on integrating EO analytics with practical solutions for Africa’s developmental challenges, particularly in water resources, land-use change, and forest management. He chairs the Hydroinformatics Engineering Research Group and the Faculty of Engineering Research Committee.
His experience in geospatial technology, data governance, and cross-functional collaborations positions him to drive initiatives that align with DE Africa’s goals, the UN SDGs, and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
As a member of the DE Africa Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), Yashon aims to provide technical expertise in EO-data analytics and platforms, support the development of sustainable, impactful solutions, and contribute to capacity building and project implementation across Africa.
