Building Niger’s geospatial skills at SIATeG 2026

Niamey hosted the third edition of the Artificial Intelligence and Geospatial Technologies Week (SIATeG) on 23–24 July 2026, bringing together government, academia and the private sector under the theme “AI and Geospatial Services: Building Sustainable Solutions for a Resilient Niger.”

The event drew senior national authorities, including the Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication, the Secretary General of the National Agency for the Information Society (ANSI), and the Director General of the Higher School of Electronic Communications and Postal Services (ESCEP) underscoring the government’s commitment to geospatial technologies as a pillar to Niger’s digital transformation.

Digital Earth Africa took part in the conversation, with a mandate to demonstrate spatial tools and transfer skills. A dedicated session introduced participants to DE Africa’s platforms, walking a diverse audience of students and professionals through geospatial analysis tools with direct application to water resource management, agriculture and climate action. In addition, the DE Africa booth became one of the event’s focal points, welcoming 42 visitors, officials and industry professionals alike who are keen to explore the programme’s Earth observation products and services.

To build on that momentum, Digital Earth Africa and GeoMinds Africa have agreed to formalise a partnership that will extend access to geospatial tools for students and professionals in Niger long after the event’s close, turning a week of exchange into a lasting foundation for capacity building.
