Digital Earth Africa and HYGEO forge a collaboration to strengthen environmental management in Niger

سبتمبر 10, 2025

Digital Earth Africa (DE Africa) has signed a collaboration agreement with Hydro-Geo Consulting (HYGEO), a Niger-based company specializing in geospatial technologies and climate services. The partnership, formalized on 10 September 2025, brings together DE Africa’s unique capabilities in Earth observation and HYGEO’s expertise in environmental monitoring, water resources, and community engagement across Niger and the wider Sahel region. By combining efforts, both organizations aim to expand access to satellite data and ensure that this information directly informs decision-making for sustainable development.

Advancing data-driven environmental management

DE Africa’s mission is to improve the lives of people across the continent by providing reliable, timely, and relevant satellite data. Through this partnership, HYGEO will adopt DE Africa platforms to support critical areas such as:

  • Monitoring ecosystems and water resources.
  • Tracking climate change impacts and designing adaptation measures.
  • Strengthening flood risk management and resilience strategies.
  • Enhancing agricultural monitoring to safeguard food security.

By aligning these strengths, the partnership will help communities and decision-makers in Niger use data-driven insights to protect natural resources, adapt to climate variability, and plan for green and inclusive growth.

Building local capacity

A core component of the collaboration is knowledge exchange. DE Africa and HYGEO will work together to design and deliver training programs, workshops, and case studies to strengthen technical capacity among government institutions, academia, civil society, and private sector partners in Niger.

By empowering local stakeholders to adopt and apply satellite data, the collaboration ensures long-term sustainability and locally led solutions to environmental challenges.

Shared commitment for the Sahel

With Niger facing increasing pressures from climate change and rapid economic development, the collaboration comes at a critical moment. Together, DE Africa and HYGEO are committed to advancing sustainable resource management, enhancing climate resilience, and protecting vulnerable communities.

“This partnership with HYGEO reflects our vision to make satellite data accessible and impactful for the continent,” said Dr. Lisa Rebelo, Acting Managing Director of Digital Earth Africa. “By combining our capabilities with HYGEO’s deep local expertise, we will unlock new opportunities for data-driven solutions in Niger and across the Sahel.”
