The Symposium&nbsp;was held at the COSDEF Arts and Crafts Centre and was co-hosted by the Namibian Ministry of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation (MHETI), and the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCSRT). The Symposium theme was&nbsp;<em>Earth Observation for Africa prosperity<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference was officially opened by Dr. Alfred van Kent, Executive Director, from the Namibia Ministry Higher Education Technology and Innovation (MHETI).The opening day included remarks from Africa Union Commission, Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Secretariat, and AfriGEO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DE Africa Managing Director, Dr. Thembi Xaba, delivered a Keynote highlighting DE Africa\u2019s&nbsp;country engagements through the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalearthafrica.org\/media-center\/projects\/information-agriculture-food-and-water-security-iafws\">Information for Agriculture, Food and Water Security (IAFWS) project<\/a>), and engagements with youth in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalearthafrica.org\/media-center\/blog\/introducing-digital-earth-africa-industrial-training-programme-state-university\">Zanzibar<\/a>&nbsp;e&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalearthafrica.org\/media-center\/blog\/digital-earth-africa-workshop-advances-geomatics-research-conference-agrc2023\">Uganda<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"457\" height=\"277\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalearthafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Picture-2-Blog-2_1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3548\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Dr. Xaba providing an overview of DE Africa<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>DE Africa team members Zviko Mudimu (Head of Operations) and Dr. Lisa Rebelo (Lead Scientist) made key presentations during the Symposium. Zviko presented during&nbsp;<em>Session 3: EO for Grassroot Service Delivery<\/em>, he provided an overview of DE Africa engagements at the grassroots with YouthMappers through the Digital Earth Africa Technical Challenge whilst Dr Rebelo presented in Session 7: Data &amp; Infrastructure,&nbsp;and shared&nbsp;<em>Digital Earth Africa\u2019s Operational Insights<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"260\" height=\"165\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalearthafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Picture4_3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3547\" style=\"width:192px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>DE Africa Head of Operations, Zviko Mudimu&nbsp;<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"169\" height=\"165\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalearthafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/MicrosoftTeams-image-15.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3546\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">DE Africa Lead Scientist, Dr Lisa Rebelo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Kenneth Mubea, DE Africa Capacity Development Lead, moderated Session 5: Youth Session, which included speakers: &#8211; Meshack Kinyua (GMES and Africa), Imraan Saloojee, Research Institute for Innovation and Sustainability (RIIS), Brenda Nagula, URTC, John-Freddy Ngabikoumou &#8211; Centre Universitaire de Recherche et d&#8217;Application en T\u00e9l\u00e9d\u00e9tection (CURAT), Kumbirai Nicholas, Higher Life Foundation, and Laura Mugeha, Youth Mappers. The conference served as a dynamic platform for the AfriGEO Community to foster awareness, collaboration, and connections.
